Bringing the Foreground Forward

LETS PAINT SOME DETAIL!

The first video is meant to follow course number 1.
I will be going over techniques on creating more depth through detailed foreground imagery over a loose playful abstract background.

We will once again pull from the ideas we came up with in the “flower dreaming” exercise in course #1

I encourage you to first watch this video rather than trying to follow along and create at the same time since parts of it are sped up to get us along in the more labor intensive parts of the process. Watch and then take your time with your painting. Use the step by step photos for reference and go at your own pace. No need to rush the creative process.

What you will learn in this course-

I will show you how to bring more detail to create a new layer over your existing background imagery and how to really make it “pop”. We will work from a photo, from real life and free flow from our memory and imagination. I go about this differently with every painting and will be doing a combination of all three in this lesson. Here I will be showing you how to create the appearance of depth and space between the layers.

Painting Eyes

SETTING THE MOOD

Technique in bringing the eyes and painting to life.

Eyes can set the mood of an entire painting. Happiness, sadness, anger, and surprise are just a few emotions we can easily read by looking into someones or something’s eyes. They have the ability to tell a story all on their own so Its no wonder the phrase “The eyes are the windows to the soul” is a common one.

Here I will guide you through my approach in bringing more life to the characters in your paintings through a step by step layering process in creating depth through darks and lights, shadow and highlights.

I encourage you to watch the video first then use the step by step photos so you can go at your own pace sand not feel rushed.

Jewels & Water Droplets

DETAILS + DESIGN

Anatomy of water droplets and jewels

light source + reflected light + shadow = the three key ingredients to lifelike water droplets and jewels

One of the most common places you will see water droplets is adorning the tops of leaves and flowers after a rain or on a dewy morning. I will guide you through 7 simple steps to painting these gorgeous bits of detail with ease.

Little details can have a big impact. Water droplets and jewels are common decorations I add to my paintings. The simple technique you will be learning can be applied to any rounded water or jewel like images. Aside from creating more interest and life, they are just fun! and simple!

I encourage you to watch the video first then use the step by step photos so you can go at your own pace sand not feel rushed.
